LightSail Education, a K-12 literacy app used in NYC schools, needed to provide a stable, performant, and user-friendly experience to meet the diverse needs of teachers and students in various classroom environments and expand its market.
ESTABLISH PRODUCT DESIGN AND MANAGEMENT
Product Design and Management was established as a core discipline within LightSail. This involved envisioning the platform's future, creating a comprehensive roadmap, and providing design leadership and education.
REDESIGN AND RE-ARCHITECT
This redesign focused on making the platform approachable and user-friendly for both teachers and students. The platform was re-architected for extensibility, ensuring it could accommodate future growth and feature enhancements, including transitioning to HTML for enhanced accessibility and performance.
USER-CENTRIC APPROACH
User journeys and prototypes were created to improve efficiency and usability. Engaging and innovative user experiences were designed for teachers, students, parents, and internal staff involved in platform implementation.
IMPLEMENT BEST PRACTICES
To ensure a streamlined development process, best practices were established across product management, including grooming, estimation, negotiation, and retrospectives. This included incorporating design libraries for iconography, colors, and fonts to maintain consistency and cohesive brand identity.
READING GROWTH
LightSail's redesigned platform drove reading growth at 2.5 times the national average.
FUNDRAISING SUCCESS
The innovative product experience aided in raising approximately $23 million in funding.
